Ladies Fly Fishing Day at Dearnford by Sue Macniven
Tuesday 2nd October saw the first ladies fly fishing day in conjunction with WiRE (Women in Rural Enterprise) at Dearnford Lake in Shropshire.
The bus arrived at 9.00am with 30 very excited ethnic business women from Birmingham on board. They were all making their début into the world of fly fishing and were determined to give it their all and have some fun.
The day started with a welcome by proprietor Jane Bebbington and local WiRE representative Gill Edwards.
The tuition was given by top AAPGAI instructors Gary Coxon (chairman), Derek Turner, Jim Fearn, and Mike Bridge with an introduction to the sport and demonstration given by Sue Macniven.
The day was great fun for all concerned with the woman learning how to tie flies as well as the intricacies of casting and catching trout. There were trout rising freely all day amid loud whoops of delight from the women when fish were caught. Gary finished the day with a demonstration of filleting and smoking the trout on the barbecue. It was agreed by all that we had had a great day with many of the women saying they would love to do it again.
Jane and her staff provided us all with a wonderful vegatarian lunch.
